Federal Government says it will conduct a nationwide household survey to determine the actual number of out-of-school children in Nigeria, saying current estimates are outdated.
Speaking at the 2026 Annual Education Summit in Abuja, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa said the survey, to be carried out in partnership with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), will provide accurate data to guide education policies and interventions.
Alausa disclosed that more than one million out-of-school children have returned to classrooms over the past two years but stressed that reliable data is essential for measuring progress. He also highlighted reforms in technical and vocational education, STEM, digital transformation, and improved education governance
