The Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Chike Olemgbe, has assured stakeholders that the Assembly will favourably consider a bill seeking to create three additional seats for women in the legislature.
Olemgbe gave the assurance when the League of Women Voters of Nigeria visited the Assembly to advocate support for the proposed legislation. The bill seeks to increase the number of lawmakers in the 27-member Assembly to 30, with one additional seat reserved for women from each of the state’s three senatorial districts.
The Speaker said the proposal would receive positive legislative attention if presented during the tenure of the 10th Assembly, stressing the importance of greater female participation in governance.
