Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and 470 other candidates from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general elections.
INEC National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna announced this on Tuesday that the commission will recognize only the candidates submitted by the David Mark-led leadership of the party, following a Supreme Court judgment affirming their authority.
The approved candidates include one presidential aspirant, 109 senatorial candidates, and 360 House of Representatives candidates. Haruna stated that INEC granted the Mark-led faction access to its nomination portal based on the court ruling, while the rival faction’s submissions remain unrecognized, as their appeal was lost. Currently the commission plans to review the certified court judgment before making an official decision on its implications within the next 48 hours.
