The Nigeria Football Federation and Canadian club AFC Toronto have condemned racist abuse directed at Super Falcons midfielder Esther Okoronkwo following the theft of her money at the team’s hotel in Morocco.

The NFF described the racist comments and monkey emojis posted on social media as unacceptable, while AFC Toronto said there was no place for racism in football. Moroccan authorities had arrested the hotel worker involved in the theft, recovered the stolen money and sentenced the suspect to six months in prison.

Both organisations reaffirmed their support for Okoronkwo and stressed their commitment to fighting racism and promoting respect and inclusion in football.
