Nigeria has ended the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in seventh place on the medals table, winning 24 medals: 10 gold, 7 silver, and 7 bronze. The team was the top African nation, ahead of South Africa and Kenya.
Key achievements included historic wins in athletics, with Samuel Ogazi becoming the first Nigerian to win gold in the men’s 400m, Ezekiel Nathaniel claiming Nigeria’s first Commonwealth title in men’s 400m hurdles, and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi earning Nigeria’s first gold in men’s shot put.
Other medals came from Ruth Usoro, Ella Onojuvwevwo, and Tobi Amusan, among others. Nigeria’s relay teams also secured bronze medals. The country’s success extended beyond athletics to weightlifting, para-sports, and judo, contributing significantly to the medal tally during the 11-day event, which saw massive spectator and online engagement.
