Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced its readiness to undertake a major national struggle to push for a comprehensive review of the country’s minimum wage and pension policies. NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero made this declaration during the commissioning of the Comrade Godwin Abumisi Pensioners Legacy House and Multipurpose Hall in Abuja.
Ajaero emphasized that discussions about workers’ welfare must now include retirees, condemning the living conditions of pensioners living below the poverty line after years of service. He called on workers and pensioners to prepare for upcoming ideological and economic battles, advocating for the establishment of a national minimum pension alongside a new minimum wage.
Highlighting the rising cost of living, Ajaero insisted that pensioners deserve dignity and security in retirement. He further urged unity among pensioners and workers, emphasizing that the legacy house should serve as a hub for mobilization and solidarity.
