Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed concern over Nigeria’s poor ranking among the world’s worst countries for labor rights violations, describing it as a national embarrassment.
During the 68th Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), NLC President Joe Ajaero highlighted that Nigeria is ranked among the top 10 nations with the worst labor rights violations in the 2025 ITUC Global Rights Index.
He called on employers to lead efforts in reversing this trend by respecting labor laws and promoting collective bargaining. Ajaero further emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between employers and organized labor to implement international labor standards, improve workplace safety, and regulate the platform economy.
