Latest Consumer Price Index report released by the National Bureau of Statistics has disclosed that Nigeria’s headline inflation rate marginally decreased to 15.91 percent in June 2026 from 15.93 percent in May.

While the organized private sector OPS welcomed the slight decline, they warned that inflation remains in double digits, and prices are still too high for businesses and consumers.

The report showed that although the annual inflation rate continued its downward trend, food prices rose faster month-on-month, driven by increases in staples such as pepper, tomatoes, crayfish, beef, garri, and yams. Also the The Consumer Price Index CPI increased to 143.0 in June from 140.7 in May, reflecting a 2.3-point rise, with a slower month-on-month inflation rate of 1.66 percent compared to 1.75 percent in May.
