President Bola Tinubu will attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York this September, marking his return to the global summit after a two-year absence, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, has confirmed.
Ibrahim said Tinubu will address world leaders on Nigeria’s economic reforms and participate in key side events focused on energy, education, healthcare and regional security. He also revealed that Tinubu will be seated on the front row of the General Assembly hall, just two seats away from U.S. President Donald Trump, raising the possibility of a chance meeting between the two leaders.
The President is also expected to use the UN platform to advance Nigeria’s proposal for improved border policing across West Africa in collaboration with the United Nations.
