The decisive goal was scored by substitute Ferran Torres during extra time, securing Spain’s second World Cup title, 16 years after their first victory in 2010.
Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, fought hard but faced a setback in stoppage time of regulation when Enzo Fernández received a second yellow card and was sent off, leaving his team with ten men. With Argentina down, Spain dominated possession in extra time and finally broke through when Nico Williams set up Torres for the winning strike.
Spain’s disciplined defensive performance, conceding only one goal in seven matches, helped them overcome strong opposition, including knockout wins over Egypt and England. Argentina, despite valiant efforts and outstanding saves from goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, could not break through Spain’s defense and fell short of defending their title.
