British Defence Ministry has announced Britain has canceled one of its annual military training exercises in Kenya after failing to secure a necessary license from the Kenyan government.
The training, conducted by the British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK) at a permanent base in Laikipia, was scheduled for later this year but has now been relocated to an undisclosed country. Kenya, which gained independence from Britain in 1963, maintains a strong defence partnership with the UK, allowing thousands of British troops to conduct exercises on Kenyan soil annually.
The British Defence Ministry did not specify why the license was denied or reveal the new training location. Despite the cancellation, the ministry emphasized that the broader defense relationship between both nations remains unaffected, although the base has faced controversy over incidents involving British soldiers.
