United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has commended the Federal Government for rescuing 39 pupils and five teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
During a courtesy visit to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell praised the government’s efforts in securing the victims’ release and stressed the importance of protecting children affected by conflict and insecurity.
UNICEF also lauded the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), particularly its support for women and children, the birth registration campaign that has registered about 14 million Nigerian children in two years, and advocacy against female genital mutilation.
